Henry Liu
UMTRI DIRECTOR
Henry Liu is director of the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), and director of Mcity, U-M’s public-private research partnership focused on transforming mobility, that is now part of UMTRI. He also is a professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at U-M, and director of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Region 5 Center for Connected and Automated Transportation. In addition, Liu founded U-M’s Next Generation Transportation Systems program. In September 2023, Liu was appointed the Bruce D. Greenshields Collegiate Professor of Engineering at U-M.

David Eby
UMTRI DEPUTY DIRECTOR
Dr. Eby is a research professor and head of the Behavioral Sciences Group at the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI). In January 2022 he was appointed associate director for faculty affairs at UMTRI.

Jingwen Hu
UMTRI ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Dr. Hu’s research interests primarily focus on impact/injury biomechanics in motor-vehicle crashes by a multidisciplinary approach using a combination of experimental, computational, and epidemiological procedures. He is also interested in human modeling for other applications, including pediatric head injuries in falls and child abuse cases, computer-aided surgery, and seating comfort.

Monica Jones
UMTRI ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR
Dr. Jones has over 10 years of experience conducting research studies relating to humans in engineered systems. Motivated by eight years of practice as an industrial engineer in the automotive industry, Dr. Jones’ approach to research is solution-oriented and based on detailed, accurate quantification of human interactions with products and workspaces.
