Research Interests

Dr. Park’s research interests focus on biomechanical and parametric modeling of human anatomy, which accounts for morphological variances of human bodies and the musculoskeletal system across populations of different ages, gender, and ethnic groups. He has developed various types of statistical models that allow for predicting subject-specific shapes of bodies and bones as a function of a few predictors such as stature, body mass index, age, and gender. He recently has published these models online to the public (see links below). He is also interested in multidisciplinary applications using these parametric human models, including a portable body-scanning system, markerless motion-capture system, pediatric-obesity assessment tool, computer-aided surgery, and advanced passenger-safety system.

Key Projects

  • Development of Advanced System for Three-Dimensional Anthropometry of Clothed Individuals, USMC, 2020
  • Vehicle Occupant Behavior Classification Across Automation Levels, Hyundai, 2019
  • Automated Vehicle Occupant Kinematics, Toyota, NTHSA, 2017 – 2018
  • Markerless motion capture system using multiple depth cameras, Ford, 2020
