UMTRI Experts Attend 2026 HFES Annual Meeting, Showcasing Innovations in Human Factors and Ergonomics

Faculty from the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI) will  be in Chicago this week to share their expertise alongside professionals from around the world at the 2026 Human Factors and Ergonomics Society (HFES) Annual Meeting, ASPIRE..

Paul A. Green, Monica Jones, and Kathleen Klinich will speak at ASPIRE, underlining UMTRI’s ongoing commitment to advancing human factors and ergonomics research, fostering safety, and championing inclusive and accessible mobility for all.

Green, who attended his first HFES annual meeting in 1974, and has been on the Executive Council for 18 years, will present on vehicle standards and engage with students, continuing his tradition of mentorship and thought leadership. Green, the 2024 recipient of the prestigious Arnold M. Small and Betty M. Sanders President’s Distinguished Service Award, is recognized for his outstanding contributions to the field.

Jones will participate in the panel, Early Career Insights in Human Factors Engineering Across Academia and Industry: Evolving Perspectives. She will join other junior to mid-career professionals from industry, consulting, and academia to share experiences and practical advice with those considering a career in human factors engineering—a unique and evolving profession.

Klinich will lend her expertise to a panel discussing the power of accessible mobility. The session will explore how inclusive transportation design can transform the lives of millions, especially those with disabilities, by connecting them to essential opportunities. The panel will highlight advancements and innovations aiming toward a holistic, inclusive transportation architecture amid industry transformation.
