SMART announces 'Mobi' Prize for sustainable transportation ventures

February 14, 2012

MobiPrize is a new award honoring entrepreneurial ventures in sustainable transportation. The award was created by SMART (Sustainable Mobility and Accessibility Research and Transformation) with support from the Rockefeller Foundation.

MobiPrize recognizes enterprises that demonstrate innovative and replicable solutions to local and global transportation challenges. Three grand prizes include $5,000 cash, a trip to Rio+20 (United Nations conference on sustainable development) in June, and dedicated time with top-notch entrepreneurial mentors.

"Action on sustainable transportation is especially important now, as accelerating urbanization, population growth, globalization and demographic shifts can end up threatening climate, the environment, biodiversity, energy security, social equity, productivity, urban economies, and livability," said Susan Zielinski, managing director of SMART. The application deadline for MobiPrize is April 1, 2012. For more information about the award, eligibility requirements, and application details, visit SMART Mobility EnterPrize.
