January 25, 2010

IVBSS partner Con-way Freight has been selected by Commercial Carrier Journal as an "Innovator" and will be honored for its efforts in testing safety technology at the journal's annual Innovators Summit in February 2010.

As an Innovator recognized in 2009, Con-way Freight is a finalist for the honor of Commercial Carrier Journal's Innovator of the Year award, to be announced on Feb. 4. The award recognizes trucking operations that have demonstrated true innovation in trucking management.

Con-way is one of several partners involved in UMTRI's Integrated Vehicle Based Safety Systems (IVBSS) program, a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Transportation. The IVBSS program is a four-year research program to develop and test an integrated crash-warning system. The system is made up of a suite of advanced technologies that warn drivers when they are about to leave the roadway, are in danger of colliding with another vehicle while attempting a lane change, or are at risk of colliding with the vehicle in front of them.
