Reducing Motor Vehicle Crash Risk Among Adolescent Drivers: Taking Checkpoints to the Next Level
Sponsor: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Center for Injury Prevention and Control

The objective of this project is to conduct a community-based randomized controlled trial of Checkpoints, an intervention designed to increase parental restrictions on novice teen drivers. The intervention (a short classroom program with a video, persuasive communication, and an opportunity to complete a parent/teen agreement) will be delivered by trained driver education instructors to parent/teen dyads. Parents and teens will complete a baseline survey and a licensure (Michigan Level 2) survey. Teens will also complete surveys at three and six months after obtaining a Level 2 license. Driver educators will also complete a survey. Desired outcomes are increased parental restrictions and monitoring, as well as reduced violations and crashes.
