Initial testing with the 6YO and 10YO ATDs showed improved kinematics when seat cushion depth was optimized to accommodate the children who sit there. Computational modeling of these tests was used to identify belt geometry and cushion depth optimized for older children without booster seats. Additional testing is being performed with adult ATDs and rear-facing child restraints to identify possible negative consequences for other rear seat occupants if the seats are designed for older children
