UTMOST is a model of the population of crashes that is designed for visualizing patterns among crashes, as well as visualizing the effects of safety countermeasures and combinations of countermeasures. For example, the UTMOST model can be used to predict the combined effect of implementing stricter drunk driving controls and adoption of lane-departure warning systems on such outputs as number of crashes, number of fatalities, and cost of injuries. Effects of countermeasures on different populations of occupants, such as young drivers or the elderly, can also be examined.
