Thermal Imaging Inspection System Project

Sponsor: DOT / International Electronic Machines Corporation
Investigator: Paul E. Green
11/20/2006 - 06/30/2009

The Thermal Imaging Inspection System Study, sponsored by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, is a demonstration project that uses a thermal imaging inspection system to identify, in real time, faults and failures in truck components.

TSA researchers will work with International Electronic Machines Corporation (IEM). Our role in this project will include design of statistical models for classification and testing of infrared image signatures and their relationship to predicted failure of specific truck components (such as brakes, bearings, and tires). The goal is to develop a predictive model that can be implemented in an intelligent inspection system.
