UMTRI Project
Education and Outreach on How Fuel Economy Affects Automakers
Sponsor: Energy Foundation
Investigator: Walter McManus
03/31/2007 - 02/29/0008
The goal of this project is to educate and disseminate information about the ongoing policy debates about mandated fuel economy constraints and fuel taxes by developing estimates of the impacts of constraints and taxes on U.S. consumer welfare and the U.S. vehicle industry.
The proposed project will educate media, the public, and policymakers about the impacts of oil prices, technology and consumer trends, and policy choices on auto companies, plants, profits, and jobs. Specifically, NRDC staff and media consultant Cater Communications will help the UMTRI-AAD draw attention to these topics in a way that advances smart policy solutions. Outreach will focus on Michigan, other Midwest auto states, and the national level.
