Michael Sivak
Dr. Michael Sivak is a Research Professor and the Head of UMTRI's Human Factors Division. He received a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Michigan. Dr. Sivak's primary expertise is in the perceptual and cognitive aspects of driving. Examples of his recent research topics include global road safety, vehicle design & road safety, human-factors aspects of vehicle headlighting and signaling, bounded rationality and driver behavior, the relative risks of flying and driving, and sustainable transportation.
In 1987, Dr. Sivak established the Industry Affiliation Program for Human Factors in Transportation Safety, a research consortium that focuses on vision in vehicles. He is also the founder and Director of Sustainable Worldwide Transportation, a research consortium that addresses major road transportation issues worldwide. In 2001, he was named a Distinguished Research Scientist by the University of Michigan.
