Omer Tsimhoni

Dr. Omer Tsimhoni is an assistant research scientist in UMTRI's Human Factors Division and an adjunct assistant professor in the University of Michigan's Industrial and Operations Engineering (IOE) Department. He teaches discrete event simulation to undergraduate and graduate students. Dr. Tsimhoni holds a B.S. in physics and computer science from the University of Tel Aviv, and M.S.E. and Ph.D. degrees in industrial engineering from the University of Michigan.

For the last ten years, Dr. Tsimhoni has been engaged in human factors research at UMTRI and at IOE. His research focus has been on driver performance while using in-vehicle devices (driver distraction). His research has spanned a wide range of approaches, consisting of on-the-road experiments, simulator laboratory experiments, and computational modeling of human performance. He has conducted several driving simulator experiments to further the understanding and quantification of the visual demands of driving in relation to the use of in-vehicle systems. His research has involved in-vehicle navigation systems, data entry using keyboards and speech recognition, the effect of driving while listening to text-to-speech email messages, head-up displays, and night vision enhancement systems. Dr. Tsimhoni has published about 30 technical reports, conference proceedings, and journal articles.
