Scott Bogard

Scott Bogard is a lead engineer in research in UMTRI's Engineering Systems Group. He has worked at UMTRI for over 15 years and has an M.S.E. degree in mechanical engineering. Since joining UMTRI, he has been involved in a variety of research projects aimed at determining the mechanical performance characteristics of motor vehicles and understanding the task of driving as it pertains to driver behavior and the study of roadway safety. Most recently, he has played a substantial role in four large field-operational-test projects in the capacity of planning and implementing the data handling, processing, and analysis tasks. He also plays an active role in the preparation and conduct of these tests by working in the field to make sure the test vehicles are properly equipped and operating as designed.

In other work, Mr. Bogard has had a variety of experiences, ranging from the physical measurement of truck suspension characteristics to the development of software for vehicle component design and kinematic analysis. He has made substantial contributions to many technical papers and numerous reports. His areas of professional interest are:

Vehicle dynamics: passenger car and heavy truck
    Enterprise-level database applications using SQL
Programming and simulation: Fortran, C, Visual Basic
Field test operations: heavy truck and passenger car
    Vehicle and component measurement
Interactive web applications: html, dhtml, active server pages, databases
