Mark Gilbert

Mark Gilbert is an electronics engineer lead for the Engineering Systems Group. He joined UMTRI in 2007 after seventeen years at the General Motors Proving Ground in Milford, Michigan, where he developed instrumentation and led studies of the vehicle operating environment, including road, driver, and environmental inputs. Mr. Gilbert has an M.S.E. in industrial and operations engineering and a B.S.E. in computer engineering from the University of Michigan.

At UMTRI, Mr. Gilbert has primarily been involved in instrumenting vehicles for large-scale field operational tests of safety systems on both heavy truck and passenger car fleets. In addition, he has been responsible for the operation of the light-vehicle fleet data acquisition and safety systems – monitoring system health, diagnosing and resolving issues, and contributing to the data analysis tasks. His efforts also include a data acquisition system for monitoring the driving behavior of subjects with early stage dementia, a hardware-in-the-loop simulator for the evaluation of heavy truck braking and stability control systems, a self-guided road profile measuring vehicle, and a machine-vision-based intersection monitoring system for determining vehicle trajectories.
