Hemant Sardar

Dr. Hemant M. Sardar is an assistant research scientist in UMTRI’s Vehicle Systems and Control Group. His research interests include intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and human factors in ITS, adaptive and nonlinear controls, modeling and identification of systems for controller synthesis and NVH suppression, application of control theory to systems design and integration, and topologies for fault detection and recovery in automotive electrical/electronic systems.

Prior to joining UMTRI, Dr. Sardar was a technical specialist at TRW Automotive’s Steering and Suspension Technical Center where he provided technical analysis and support in the areas of systems and controls, and robust design for steering and suspension products. He has been active in research and technology development in the area of mechatronics, both in academia and in industry, with application to robotics, machine tools, and automotive systems. Dr. Sardar’s prior research includes work in active vibration suppression in machine tools using smart materials, and in control of mobile and fixed robots. He is an inventor/co-inventor on three patents.

Dr. Sardar received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Clemson University, and his B.Tech. degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay. He is currently an associate editor of ASME’s Journal of Dynamic Systems, Measurement, and Control.
