Andrea Ippel Barretto

Mrs. Andrea Ippel Barretto is a Senior Research Associate in UMTRI’s Social and Behavioral Analysis Division. Her primary area of interest is college driver behavior and related problem behavior, such as at-risk drinking. Mrs. Barretto joined UMTRI in 2006 as a Project Coordinator for a large efficacy study of a web-based, tailored brief motivational intervention to prevent/reduce alcohol misuse among college freshmen. She manages the development and design of the intervention-study, as well as the collection of formative research data, implementation of the intervention, and the monitoring and evaluation.

Mrs. Barretto has considerable experience in health science research and program design, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. She worked for the World Health Organization where she synthesized and evaluated the effectiveness of large behavioral HIV/AIDS interventions in developing countries. She also authored health program proposals and led project teams as a Community Action for Health Program volunteer in Zambia, Africa with the U.S. Peace Corps (2001-2004). She holds a B.S. in Neuroscience & Behavioral Biology from Emory University and an M.H.S. in Social & Behavioral Interventions from the Department of International Health at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
