UMTRI and COE hiring faculty in sustainable transportation systems

MULTIPLE FACULTY POSITIONS IN SUSTAINABLE TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS; COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING AND UMTRI
The University of Michigan College of Engineering (COE) and the University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute (UMTRI), as part of their initiative on sustainable transportation has two tenure-track faculty openings in the general area of Sustainable Transportation Systems. This is a critically important research and teaching area as national and global challenges in transportation safety, energy, emissions, and infrastructure emerge. It is also a preeminent theme for the University of Michigan and the State of Michigan. The positions are part of an interdisciplinary cluster hire initiated between the COE and UMTRI. Successful applicants will be given a tenure-track appointment in a College of Engineering department(s) and a secondary appointment in UMTRI. All ranks will be considered for the positions. For both positions, applicants shall have a doctorate in engineering or related field of study, and those applying at the Associate Professor or Professor levels must have a well-established academic record, including scholarly publications and an externally funded research program. The intellectual depth, innovation and promise of the candidates are of higher priority than their specific research areas. However, a non-exclusive list of areas of interest include: crash avoidance and vehicle control systems, transportation systems modeling, cyber-security, agent-based modeling of transportation systems, human-machine interfaces, autonomous and semi-autonomous vehicles, analysis of large-scale transportation datasets, sustainable management of roads and bridges, and cyber-physical systems in transportation.
Applicants will additionally be evaluated on their vision and potential for teaching within an appropriate academic department at both an undergraduate and graduate level. Reduced teaching loads will be available for those with significant collaborations within UMTRI. The successful candidates should also establish an active research program that spans between the COE and UMTRI while conducting multidisciplinary research and teaching activities with colleagues in other Departments and Colleges on campus.
