Powertrain strategies conference: Designing powertrains for a global market
Posted 07/10/2012
Many regions around the world use smaller, more fuel efficient powertrains than those manufactured in the United States. Manufacturers and suppliers face a challenge in meeting the needs of U.S. consumers while striving to reach increased economies of scale for their global markets.
Experts will discuss the complexities of designing powertrains for a global market at UMTRI's Powertrain Strategies for the 21st Century conference on Wednesday, July 25. The conference will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the University of Michigan, Michigan League ballroom (second floor).
Key conference questions include the following:
- How do the manufacturers and suppliers design powertrains to meet local regulations while at the same time meeting global requirements?
- What role do alternative powertrains play in markets outside the U.S.?
- What economies of scale are manufacturers reaching with their current powertrain designs and what goals do they have for future designs?
- How are powertrain R&D investments allocated globally and why?
Confirmed conference speakers include UMTRI assistant research scientist Bruce Belzowski; Chris Cowland of Chrysler Group; Joe Capuano of Bosch Corporation; John Kirwan of Delphi Corporation; Michael Omotoso of LMC Automotive-US; Jason Schug of Ricardo Strategic Consulting; and John Hoard and Jason Martz of the U-M College of Engineering.
