Visiting researcher seeks to improve traffic safety in China
Wei Zhang, a human factors expert from China, is working with UMTRI's Human Factors Division as a visiting scientist trough the end of August. He is head of the Virtual Reality and Human Interface Technology Lab and an associate professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering at Tsinghua University in Beijing.
At UMTRI, Professor Zhang is working on the Strategic Worldwide Transportation 2020 project. He is reviewing the current traffic situation in China and examining various cost-benefit solutions to improving conditions.
Professor Zhang's research interests include virtual reality and applications, human-machine system simulation, human factors and ergonomics, rapid prototyping and manufacturing, and quality control. He holds a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering.
