Heavy Vehicle Tilt Table

The UMTRI heavy-vehicle tilt table is a test device for high-resolution measurement of the basic static roll stability of heavy commercial vehicles. The facility uses individual axle tables moving together under computer control. Each table can support over 25,000 pounds. Five axle units allow testing any vehicle configuration with up to five axles. Capability can be readily expanded by adding axle units.

The tilt table can simulate lateral accelerations up to 0.6g. Data is gathered using a digital data acquisition system. The system provides simultaneous recording of up to 48 channels allowing extensive instrumentation for analysis of influence of tires, suspensions, and other vehicle elements on the ultimate stability of the vehicle.
