In-Depth Crash Investigations (UMIVOR/CIREN)

Each year, UMTRI's team of experienced crash investigators conducts over 150 in-depth investigations of late-model vehicles involved in different types of crashes. Detailed measurements of the vehicle and information on occupant injuries are analyzed to determine the causes of injuries and to assess the performance of the latest technologies in occupant protection systems. Recent investigations have focused on crashes involving pregnant occupants, rollover crashes with seriously injured belt-restrained occupants, injuries caused by deploying airbags, side impacts with near-side occupants and side-impact airbags and curtains, offset-frontal crashes and lower-extremity injuries, and the deployment of advanced airbag systems in frontal crashes.
