Wheelchair-Seated Occupants

UMTRI researchers are also world leaders in the application of basic principles of occupant protection and injury biomechanics to improving motor-vehicle safety and crash protection for wheelchair-seated travelers. This work includes the development of voluntary performance standards and test methods for evaluating the crashworthiness of wheelchairs and wheelchair tiedowns and occupant restraint systems (WTORS.)
