Child Occupant Protection Device Use and Misuse
All states have some form of legislation requiring young children to be in a child safety seat while traveling in a motor vehicle. These laws have had varying success in getting parents to properly restrain their young children. Even when children are seated in the proper child safety seat, the seat is often improperly installed in the vehicle. Researchers at UMTRI have developed several studies to determine the overall use rates of child safety seats, as well as common misuse errors.
