Statewide Safety Belt Use
UMTRI researchers have developed complex survey designs to determine the safety belt use rates of motorists on a Michigan-wide level. These surveys have evaluated how safety belt use is influenced by several demographic and environmental characteristics including age, sex, race, vehicle type, cellular phone use, time of day, day of week, and weather conditions. Results from these surveys have been used to evaluate the effectiveness of statewide programs designed to increase safety belt use.
