Transportation Data Center

The Transportation Data Center is uniquely qualified to provide expert consultation on the use of traffic crash data. In operation for nearly forty years, the TDC has acquired important datasets that we have documented with detailed codebooks. These codebooks include names, code values, and univariate frequencies for most variables.

Sponsors

The Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers and the Michigan State Police Office of Highway Safety Planning are major supporters of the UMTRI TDC.

Projects

  • Accident Database Services. Initiated in 1968, this continuing program sponsored by the Alliance provides a computerized database of motor-vehicle crash information to transportation safety researchers. With UMTRI’s Automated Data Access and Analysis System (ADAAS) tool and our expert consultation researchers can rapidly gain insight into specific environmental, vehicle, and human-related factors of the traffic crash problem. New datasets are added in accordance with the expressed or anticipated needs of our users.

  • Michigan Traffic Crash Facts is an information resource we design, develop, and implement for the State of Michigan's Office of Highway Safety Planning (OHSP). This yearly compilation and analysis of statewide crash data is a valuable web tool for government agencies, researchers, and the general public. The data is provided by the Michigan Department of State Police from their Michigan Traffic Crash Forms (UD-10).

  • The UMTRI Center for International Transportation Data is an expansion of our efforts to encompass global issues.
