The UMTRI CITD aims to expand the effort of the Transportation Data Center. By sharing information globally, we hope to improve road safety and the quality and consistency of data worldwide. We are seeking partnerships with other organizations that maintain traffic crash data for collaborations in international traffic safety issues. The Japan Automobile Research Institute (JARI) has been a user of UMTRI's Transportation Data Center since 1991. A 1997 JARI Research Journal technical note: Establishing a New Method of Obtaining Traffic Accident Data of U.S. by the Internet (in Japanese), describes the easy connectivity and use of the ADAAS Computing Environment as a resource for U.S. traffic crash data.

We are long-standing members of the National Safety Council. The Association of Transportation Safety Information Professionals ATSIP is dedicated to improving transportation safety information systems. The collection, management and usage of transportation safety data involves an ever-growing network of professionals, government agencies, and technologies.
