The NASS CDS data sets for calendar year 2002 document 4,589 crashes (with 2,419 of them involving two vehicles), 8,154 vehicles, and 10,435 occupants suffering 28,802 injuries.

Changes have been made to the accident level variables for CDS 2002: the Advanced Occupant Protection Special Study (AOPSS) has replaced the Redesigned Air Bag Special Study (RABSS) at V121, and additions have been made to Injury Source Codes at V915.
