The NASS CDS data sets for calendar year 2001 document 4,090 crashes (with 2,205 of them involving two vehicles), 7,196 vehicles, and 9,193 occupants suffering 26,342 injuries.

Changes have been made to the Accident level variables for CDS 2001. Trauma Studies (V119), Pedestrian Crash Data Study (V121), and Truck Underride (V124) have been dropped. PSU Stratum has been renumbered from V120 to V119, Impact Fires has been renumbered from V122 to V120, and Redesigned Air Bag has been renumbered from V123 to V121.
