The NASS GES data sets for calendar year 2004 document 59,156 crashes, involving 147,730 occupants in 105,295 vehicles, and 3,437 nonmotorists.

A new code value (92) Phantom Vehicle has been added for Driver Maneuvered to Avoid (V173 & V174). Minor value changes were made to Driver's Vision Obscured By (V179-181), Driver Distracted By (V182-184), and Ejection (V208 & V223).
