The NASS GES data sets for calendar year 2001 document 55,964 crashes, involving 140,147 occupants in 100,161 vehicles, and 3,134 nonmotorists.

New to GES 2001 is the addition Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) variables at the vehicle level. Variables 170 through 196 are information attained from decoding the VIN of the vehicle.
