Michigan 2000 Codebook. UMTRI Transportation Data Center. October 2001.
[ Full Text ]

The 2000 Michigan census accident file contains 424,852 records, the vehicle file contains 741,478 records, and the occupant file contains 775,119 records. In addition to the census data sets, a truck data set has been built that contains 17,343 accident records, 33,698 vehicle records, and 35,121 occupant records.

Computer errors in the processing of the 2000 Michigan data forms have resulted in a number of problems with the data. Some variables contain an unknown number of false-positive responses; those that have been determined to suffer from this problem are noted in the codebook. It has also been determined that some valid responses have been missed (false negatives), particularly on Driver Condition. User caution is highly recommended in the analysis and interpretation of these data.
