The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) bases its 2000 FARS reports on Version 25Oct01 ARF of the FARS files.

The data sets document 37,409 crashes (with 13,766 of them involving two vehicles), 57,403 vehicles, 94,030 occupants and 6,367 nonmotorists.

New variables for Bus Use and Gross Vehicle Weight Rating have been added to the vehicle file. The code value "Failure to Keep in Proper Lane/Running off Road", in Related Factors at the driver and person level, is now split into two code values. Changes have also been made to codes in the Race/Hispanic Origin variables.
