The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) bases its 2009 FARS reports on Version 02Sep10 of the FARS files.

The data sets document 30,797 crashes (with 10,147 of them involving two vehicles), 45,435 vehicles, 70,845 occupants and 5,464 nonmotorists.

PLEASE NOTE: In an effort to harmonize FARS and NASS GES files NHTSA has made significant changes to the FARS variables in 2009. The NHTSA document 2009 FARS/NASS GES Standardization describes this effort. Please refer to the Data Center document FARS 2009 Variable Changes - TDC Log October 18, 2010 for a list of these changes.
