[ Full Text ]

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) bases its 2006 FARS reports on Version 31Jul07 of the FARS files.

The data sets document 38,588 crashes (with 13,215 of them involving two vehicles), 57,943 vehicles, 91,557 occupants and 6,483 nonmotorists.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in 2005, NHTSA codes a record for not-in-transport (NIT) vehicles (parked or working in the road) and their "occupants," who are considered non-motorists. These NIT vehicle records are NOT included in the ADAAS vehicle and 2-vehicle datasets. The NIT "occupants" are in the non-motorist file (as they have always been).
