[ Full Text ]

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) National Center for Statistics and Analysis (NCSA) bases its 2005 FARS reports on Version 13Jun06 of the FARS files.

The data sets document 39,189 crashes (with 13,743 of them involving two vehicles), 59,373 vehicles, 94,405 occupants and 6,629 nonmotorists.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting in 2005, NHTSA codes a record for not-in-transport (NIT) vehicles (parked or working in the road) and their "occupants," who are considered non-motorists. These NIT vehicle records are NOT included in the ADAAS vehicle and 2-vehicle datasets. The NIT "occupants" are in the non-motorist file (as they have always been).
